A Case of Dysfunctional Antithrombin Ⅲ

Abstract

|
A qualitative abnormality of antithrombin 111 (AT Iff ) was found in the plasma of 64 year-old male patient suffering from anginal symptom, and right hemiplegia, dysarthria a-routed to cerebral thrombosis.
The AT 1U antigen concentration was normal and the progressive anti-F Ha activ￢ity was also normal. The plasma heparin cofactor was 55.55,/(10.2 IU/mL), when measured by factor Ila inhibition.
Immunoele,L-ophoresisis showed similar precipitin arc compared to normal plasma.
Even though exact nature of this abnormal AT III and family study were not inve￢stigated, the author considered this patient as heterozygous for an AT j[ molecular abnormality affecting the binding site for heparin.
